Cape Queen Elizabeth Walk
Cape Queen Elizabeth Walk
The Cape Queen Elizabeth walk is a 12 kilometre trek and will take about four hours to complete the return walk.
The starting point is the walk carpark located opposite Bruny Island Honey and near the Bruny Island airstrip. The first stage of the walk is via an old four-wheel vehicle track, which passes the Big Lagoon to the beach.
The journey to Moorina Bay and further on to Hounds Tooth is to the left. If you are there when the tide is out, then it is a simple walk around the point (picture above). Otherwise, you will need to walk over Mars Bluff to reach Moorina Bay. Still, the walk is not difficult and the views are worth the lengthier walk.
If walking over Mars Bluff, head right on the beach to visit the Arch. If walking around the point, you will walk past the Arch.
When journeying to Hounds Tooth, walk to the end of Moorina Bay, the track to the Cape heads uphill. This part of the track is not difficult, however, there are a few sections, which have eroded and are a little difficult to traverse.
The track weaves through beautiful coastal bushland with good views of the coastline.
It should be noted that there are a few cairns marking the track nonetheless, these cairns can be easily missed and there is a confusion of trails, some of which lead nowhere. Many of these trails have been well traversed which adds to the confusion.
Safe walking
Check the weather forecast before heading out. The Tasmanian weather can change quickly. Be prepared for changes and dress accordingly.
Wear footwear suitable for walking on tracks with uneven and rocky surfaces.
Along the track, there are unguarded cliffs, especially around the Hounds Tooth area. Approach the edges with caution.
During the summer, beware of snakes.
