Tasmania Zoo
Located about 18km west of Launceston, the Tasmania Zoo is home to about 100 exotic and native species. The range of species include: African Lions, Sumatran Tigers and other exotic cats, Lemurs, Meerkats, Red Pandas, Tasmanian Devils, Common Wombats, Koalas, reptiles, birds of all types and many more.
The Tasmania Zoo is privately owned and a self funding establishment, that is, the zoo relies primarily on visitors paying the reasonable admission fee. The Zoo does not receive any Government funding. I encourage visitations to the Tasmania Zoo to ensure the ongoing operation of this excellent attraction.
The staff of the Tasmania Zoo work for the conservation of rare and endangered species as well as the care and rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife. They also undertake community education programs.
The majority of enclosures were quite spacious allowing the animals freedom of movement, and well maintained. All the animals appeared in excellent condition and clearly shows the staff's caring commitment to them.
The Zoo is well laid out and accessible to all people regardless of their age or mobility.
The staff and volunteer I spoke with were friendly and knowledgeable.
When in Launceston, or in the surrounding areas, I can recommend a visit to the Tasmania Zoo. I am sure a visit to the Tasmania Zoo will be a very good inclusion on your itinerary and an ongoing talking point at the end of the day.
